I had to look up We the Living, which I've heard of but could not quite place. Wow, Ayn Rand. It sounds interesting too, especially for my tastes in learning about Russia, in all its sad periods of time. Thanks for the tip. Rebecca is certainly a book with staying power. kkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02296326994943617709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1025201337316610324.post-39366303241114903862017-03-15T17:19:41.023-04:002017-03-15T17:19:41.023-04:00The only one on your list that I have not read is ...The only one on your list that I have not read is the Le Carre. I would have though s/he would have been thrilled to have such a devoted reader as you are.<br />As for me, I'm not even sure my grade school had a library. I went straight to the children's section in my small hometown's Carnegie and spent summers there. Oh how I loved that place. Dale Carnegie is right up there in my pantheon of great people. kkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02296326994943617709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1025201337316610324.post-24843676276574778512017-03-15T13:03:36.557-04:002017-03-15T13:03:36.557-04:00PS. I only read the original one, and now I see that a film based on the book/s will be released this year. I wonder if it will keep the period character, the time period between the two world wars?kkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02296326994943617709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1025201337316610324.post-32649946549390069832017-03-15T12:59:47.001-04:002017-03-15T12:59:47.001-04:00Hi, Pam. I guessed that you were lots younger than I am and that the book wasn't around when I was in grade school. Well. Was I wrong! I don't know how I missed this book that sounds marvelous. And the organizing principle behind it too. As an adult I realized that there were quite a few children's classics I missed. Some on purpose (THE WIZARD OF OZ) and others simply because I never learned about them until I had a child of my own (THE LION THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE). Did you ever read BOXCAR CHILDREN? I loved that and can still see its scenes in my mind's eye the way I envisioned things when I read that book, lo these many years ago. Reading is such a joy and pleasure, and it is marvelous to share our passion for it with each other. Thank you for commenting. kkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02296326994943617709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1025201337316610324.post-49776274243798595042017-03-15T12:52:42.358-04:002017-03-15T12:52:42.358-04:00I enjoyed your blog, Kay. One of my favorite books I read growing up was Les Miserables(long before it was a popular play). I remember in 4th grade the school librarian told me I read too much and checked out too many books. So, I decided to go to the "big" library where they were all too happy to let me check out as many books as I liked. Now I write book and enjoy hanging out with my characters on a daily basis.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03290390157598800304noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1025201337316610324.post-65483631315605690032017-03-15T11:27:33.918-04:002017-03-15T11:27:33.918-04:00Really enjoyed this blog. The first book I can remember reading is "Strawberry Girl" by Lois Lenski. I think I was 5 or 6 when I read this and it hooked me on reading. That was a very long time ago.Pam Hopkinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13361765113269028526noreply@blogger.com
