And Now, About You...

By Laura Bradford

If you sat at a nearby table, and watched me interact with people, you'd notice that I like to ask questions. As this little habit of mine has continued in life, I've come to realize there are probably two reasons for this: I've never quite shed my reporting hat from two decades ago and I'm a rather private person (I'll ask about you to keep from saying too much about me).

It is what it is, I guess.

That said, I do love learning things about people. It fascinates me.

I guess this is why, in rather un-blog like fashion, I turn my personal blog over to my readers every Friday...giving them a chance to have their say. I do this, by asking them questions--random, fun, get-to-know-you type questions. And you know what? They actually answer.

We've been doing this pretty much every Friday (with a few, rare exceptions) for the past 2 years and I think we all feel like we know a little about each other because of them. I know that Carol likes to cook and read and bought her dream house last year. I know that Mary volunteers, cooks, crafts, and owns a Harley. I know that Chris loves science fiction, dragons, restoring cars, and makes me laugh. I know that Elizabeth The College Seamstress is a really hard worker and likes tradition.

I could go on, but figure instead, I'll just try the same thing here, today...

Ready? Here goes:

1) What was the first concert you ever saw? Who did you go with?

2) What do you do in your current life that makes you feel young?

3) What's the strangest food you've ever eaten?

4) What was your first paying job?

  2. I figure I should probably play along if I'm asking all of you to do it, right?

    Here goes mine:

    1) My first-ever was Bruce Springsteen's Born in the USA tour. I was in the nosebleeds of Meadow Stadium. I went with my brother and his then-girlfriend.

    2)Sleigh riding and water parks.

    3)Vegetables. Seriously. :)

4)I worked in the "domestics" department of the now-defunct department store chain, Caldor. I cut fabric, plucked empty CD cases out of the sheets and pillowcases every night, and answered all sorts of questions. Loved every minute of it.

  3. A concert only for teens at the May Co. Dept. Store in L.A. and the upcoming star was a very young Frank Sinatra. (see how old I am?)

Hang out with my younger friends--mostly writers but some others too.

Rattlesnake (my dad fixed it during the depression.)

    Baby sitting, started at 10.

  4. I think it was Kelly Clarkson with my younger sister. I had seen other perfomers, but that was my first real concert. (Didn't go to any when I was young)

I'd have to say I feel young when I play with my dog Holly. She's 13 now so I think it makes both of us feel younger.

The strangest food was really the way the food I ate was combined. It was a bacon cheeseburger between 2 grilled Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

Working at a seasonal kiosk of Hickory Farms selling cheese when I was 15.

    Great questions Laura!

  8. Lil, I actually smiled along with your # 2. I think I could see right away how that would make a person feel young. Good for you!!

And rattlesnake, and sheep lungs??? Ladies, I have to say, I never would have opened my mouth for those things. :)

  9. 1) What was the first concert you ever saw? Who did you go with? Woody Herman - Jazz Clarinet - Big Band. My high school band group.

    2) What do you do in your current life that makes you feel young? Working out. Until I'm done, then I feel really old. :)

    3) What's the strangest food you've ever eaten? I'm very picky so I don't eat strange food.

    4) What was your first paying job? Corn topper.

    1. Wait - I have a strange food answer - growing up my step dad hunted so we had what I called 'mystery meat' for dinner a lot of time. I always new when something was up because they'd ask how I liked the spaghetti or whatever. Then I knew the hamburger wasn't beef.

    2. What's a corn topper?

And LOL on the work out and then the after effects. LOL.

Mystery meat, eh? I would have eaten pretzels instead. :)

  10. I just found this site- I love these questions.
    1) Sting, after he left the Police. I couldn't drive but my mother graciously offered the loan of her car to my most responsible of friends. As a mom now, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have allowed it.
2)Driving the car and blasting the "all the hits from the 80's and 90's" channel. It make me feel incredibly old at the same time.
    3) Crickets and mealworms. I worked at a nightclub that served those as a joke, but I always got better tips if I ate them.
4)Working a pizza stand with a traveling fair. They always hired a few locals to help out. Not all that great, although the family drama that played out with the owners was quite interesting.
