They Do Things Differently These Days

Candy Bar at the Wedding Rehearsal Dinner

One of my grandsons got married this weekend. And things were a bit different than many weddings I've been to over the years.

First off, this couple has been together for a couple of years. Grandson proposed, including the ring, while they were on a camping trip. He was the one who wanted a big wedding.

The rehearsal dinner was at his mom's (my youngest daughter's) house. A granddaughter and her kids did the decorating for the dinner which was a Mexican theme complete with the most delicious food from the groom-to-be's favorite restaurant. Great grandkids helped with plans and insisted there be a candy bar--see above.

This was quite a party, complete with margarita machines: one with regular margaritas and the other with virgin strawberry margaritas. And everything else you could imagine to drink.

The person who came the farthest for this shindig and the wedding was from Amsterdam. (Well, now she and the groom's cousin live in New York--which still made them both the ones who came the farthest.)

Another thing that was quite different, at least I thought it was--they took many of the photos of the bride and groom before the wedding.

Part of our family that attended (only a small part) and in front two great grandkids who served as flower girl and ringbearer.

The wedding was outside at a golf course--beautiful setting and gorgeous weather.

Granddaughter Alyssa (youngest sister of the groom) and one of the groomsmen.
Bride's sister and Groom's brother (my grandson)

The bride came down the aisle to "You are my Sunshine."

The wedding ceremony itself was lovely and quite traditional. And here is a picture of the bride and groom after the kiss.

This was such a joyous response, I had to share.

The reception was fun--cameras on every table--and the kids took most of the photos. Lots of good food. A wonderful slide show of the bride and groom growing up. A very loud band--one the groom played with years ago--dancing and everything that everyone expects at a wedding.

Something else that I found different. The next day many of us, including the bride and groom, joined together for brunch at the hotel where most of the wedding party stayed.

A fun but busy weekend. And his proud grandma had to share.

  3. One of the photos I thought I posted didn't appear so I did a bit of editing (including spelling corrections.) Being on the West Coast, I see things later than some of you.

We had a great time at the wedding because we got to see so many of our offspring that live far away. Even the bride and groom are from Washington state, but my grandson grew up on the coast and his bride in the valley. Glad they chose to have the wedding in Ventura.

The candy bar was fun, and yes, even the grownups tried the pixie stix.

  4. Great pictures, Marilyn! Sounds like a wonderful time was had by all. We had photos taken at the church before my ceremony, too. It just made it easier to get over to the reception and have things start there sooner. Some things may change, but weddings will always be such a source of joy for families! And a wonderful excuse to get together! Congratulations, btw! Your brood keeps growing and growing. :-)

  8. Thanks everyone for you comments. It was such a great wedding. So proud of my grandson, he had some rocky times during his growing up years, but now he has his own business and a great wife.
